Princess don't suck their thumbs

Today, as Arielle carried blankey out to the car on our way to school she told me that "Princesses don't suck on their thumbs." Even with her own reassurance, she proceeded to hold her blankey and suck her thumb the entire drive. I have told her a time or two that sucking on her thumb all the time will ruin her teeth and cause them to rot (like the pumpkin rotted on our front step while we were on vacation). What else can I tell her to make her stop sucking her thumb? She only does it when she is holding her blankey (or thinking about holding it). We can't take away blankey just yet...none of us are ready to take that leap! I have decided that if Arielle is still attached to blankie when she starts kindergarten, I am going to cut a piece of it off and let her keep it in her pocket at school. I told her my plan and she said, "That is so nice!"
On a good note, for the past couple of weeks when I drop her off at school she does not cry to hold blankey anymore. I guess we're off to a good start after all...

What are Mommies for anyway?

Today when we were at the park, Arielle told me "Mommy, you're not for playing." So I said, "What is Mommy for then?" She replied, "You're for talking!" Why did that not surprise me to hear her say that? Probably because all she ever does is talk...from the second she wakes up in the morning until the very last second that I close her door at bedtime. I shouldn't complain because talking too much is a lot better than not talking at all. Anyway, her comment got me thinking about what mommies are really for and here is a short list that I came up with: wiping away tears, tucking into bed, carrying blankey, brushing hair, buying dresses and cleaning up messes!

Boy Crazy or Just Crazy?

Derek from Barbie's the 12 Dancing Princesses movie has joined Arielle's other imaginery "boy" friends, Dominick & Julian. Last night she told Zak and I that Derek had his clothes on but he needed to take them off to put on his pajamas. I don't know what to be more worried about...the fact that she has imaginary friends that are always there or the fact that they are all boys!

Look at the Picture, Mom

Yesterday when we were browsing the toy aisle at Target, Arielle found a Cinderella Barbie which she told me could go in the bath with her. I immediately disagreed with her and said no, Barbie's can't go in the bath with you because they are not waterproof and would get ruined. She told me two more times that Cinderella could go in the bath. Finally, after I disagreed with her for the last time she told me to "Look at the picture, Mom...see she can go in the bath". Sure enough, there was a small picture on the box of a little girl in the bathtub with Cinderella. This should serve as an awakening to me to look at the (bigger) picture before jumping to my own conclusions!

Arielle's Sixth Sense

Dominick and Julian have not left the house yet. Today Arielle was showing me something that they were doing with their fingers. Then she asked me to count all the people in the room and when I finished she told me that I forgot to count Dominick and Julian. I keep waiting for Bruce Willis to appear...

Who's Afraid of the Big Purple Monkey?

A few weeks ago we took Arielle to her first school friend's birthday party at Chucky Cheese's Pizza. When Arielle saw the big purple Monkey playing in the band on stage (they are animated and actually move) she was very afraid. Today, Arielle suddenly remembered the monkey and kept telling me over and over again that big purple monkeys are pretend and they don't go to real peoples' houses. I saw her eyes start to tear up and she started to get a look of fear but it soon faded as she reassured herself that big purple monkeys aren't real. I'm so happy that she can recognize the difference between reality and imaginary at such a young age.

Imaginary Friends

Arielle made her first imaginary friends today...Dominick and Julian. These are the names of two boy characters in her current favorite movie, "Barbie Princess & the Pauper". Today Dominic and Julien came to play with her on her playground then were hanging out with her at the house and sitting next to us on the couch. She asks us to call her Erika and Annalisse (the girl characters) several times a day and gets very upset if you call her anything else. Wonder how long this phase will last?!?!

Goodies

Arielle had a lot of fun at her first Valentine's Day party today. She had even more fun bringing home her goodies and sorting them then counting them. When daddy got home Arielle didn't waste a minute running to him with the box of chocolates that I had bought for him...I didn't even have to remind her to do it! Then she made me my own Valentine's Day "goody" that we hung on the fridge. Overall it was a great Valentine's Day had by all!

Happy Valentine's Day!

Ice Pack

Today Arielle fell of the potty and hit her head on the wall so Zak gave her an ice pack to make her head feel better. When I got home from work Zak headed off to an Avs game and I was in a bad mood. I told Arielle that I was in a bad mood so I asked her if she could make me feel better. She told me that I needed an ice pack to make me feel better so she ran downstairs and to get me one out of the freezer (but of course she had to call me down to help her get it)! What an amazing mind she has and how much better she made me feel!

Organizing

This weekend, Arielle was pretending to be the mom and I was Arielle. She put me down for a nap and told me that if I got out of bed and left the room that I would get in trouble! Then she told me to have sweet dreams and asked me what I was going to dream about? After a couple more good nights and I love you's, she closed the door. A few short minutes later when she returned I asked her what she was doing while I was sleeping. She told me that she had been organizing because there is a lot of stuff to organize when she was at home. When I went to see what she had organized I found that she had lined the shoes up in a row as well as all of her toys! She is so much her mother's daughter...I love it!

"Gina" Doctor

Yesterday when we went to a specialty doctor for Arielle's "girl" parts, she said the funniest thing! She had been playing in the waiting room on a climbing cube when they called her name. I told her we had to go in to see the doctor and she said very loudly in a waiting room full of people, "After they touch my gina, can I come back and play?" This sounds a lot worse than it actually is...

Coffee Restaurant

Last night Arielle invited me to the "Coffee Restaurant". While there we played with paper dolls and dressed them up. After dinner and a quick bath, Arielle and I snuggled on the couch together and watched "Barbie Princess & the Pauper". She turns around every so often to give me a kiss on the lips. She is so sweet!
